16.1 - All work in the care of lots and graves will be done by the Cemetery employees and no outside gardener, lot owner or other person will be permitted to do any work in the grounds.
16.2 - Except where lots are provided with Perpetual Care, all work, such as cutting grass, filling in hollow areas, etc., will be done at the lot owner’s expense, which account must be settled before the lot can be used for burial.
16.3 - Owners may have extra work done upon their lots by giving an order in person or by mail to the Superintendent, who will give prompt and careful attention to all orders for which a reasonable charge will be made. These orders may be made continuous and will receive careful attention each season until countermanded. Bills are net and payable within thirty days after date.
16.4 - Orders for new work will not be accepted on lots where there are accounts past due.
16.5 - Before lots are placed on sale, trees and shrubbery are planted in accordance with the general plan for landscape work; therefore, no lot owner will be permitted to plant trees or shrubbery, nor to have any planted. Existing trees and shrubbery, when removed from lots, except for feature lots, may not be replaced.
16.6 - Planting of flowers, ivy or other ground cover in the ground on graves or lots will not be permitted.
16.7 - Artificial decorations, flowers, wreaths, blankets, etc., will be permitted only between November 1st and March 1st, and will be removed by the Cemetery during the Spring clean-up.
16.8 - During the grass mowing season (April 15 to October 31), only fresh cut flowers will be permitted in approved containers. Tin cans, glass jars, and other breakable containers may not be used. Empty containers or those containing withered flowers will be removed by the Cemetery.
16.9 - Living plants in containers (pots, boxes, etc.) are permitted to be placed on graves or lots within seven days before Easter and Memorial Day but must be removed within seven days after said days or they will be removed by the Cemetery thereafter.
16.10 - The use of pins, wires or other objects to hold plants in containers will not be permitted.
16.11 - The digging of holes in the ground is strictly prohibited except for installation of approved type sunken bouquet holders which shall be installed by the Cemetery Authorities.
16.12 - Corner markers or posts will not be permitted except for the flush type corner markers installed by the Cemetery when sections are developed.
16.13 - Hedges, fences, temporary grave markers of any kind including those furnished by funeral directors, trellises, designs, chairs, benches, settees, frames, boxes or urns are prohibited and if placed will be removed immediately. Such benches, urns and boxes as remain on lots, when removed for any reason, may not be replaced and temporary grave markers existing at the date of the adoption of these rules may be removed at any time.
16.14 - Copings, enclosures or ditches around burial lots will not be allowed, nor the erection thereon of anything injurious to the immediate locality, or detrimental to the general appearance of the Cemetery.
16.15 - If either any trees or shrubs situated in any lot shall, by means of their roots, branches or otherwise, become detrimental to the adjacent lots or avenues, or otherwise unsightly or inconvenient to the public or adjoining lot owners, it shall be the duty of the Cemetery Authorities, and they shall have the right, by their proper officers, to enter upon said lot, or if any structure thereon shall, by the neglect of the owner thereof, become unsightly, it shall be the duty of the Cemetery Authorities, and they shall have the right, by their proper officers, to enter upon said lot, and in either event put the lot or structure in proper order or repair, or remove the said trees and shrubs, or such parts thereof as are detrimental, unsightly and inconvenient. A reasonable charge will be made for the work, and no interment or other work will be permitted upon such lot until the amount has been paid. Such trees and shrubs, when removed, shall not be replaced.
16.16 - IMPORTANT! If any mausoleum, sarcophagus, vault or similar structure erected in or on any lot, shall become dilapidated or decayed, by reason of the omission of proper provision being made by the owner for its repair and preservation, and said structure shall be determined by Nisky Hill management to be offensive and detrimental to the appearance of surrounding grounds, or become a menace to the general public, the said management shall have the right and it shall be their duty to cause such structure to be removed and the bodies therein, if any, interred in the earth upon said lot and the lot graded and sodded or seeded to correspond with adjoining ground, and make a reasonable charge for same.
16.17 - It shall be the duty and right of Nisky Hill management from time to time, to alter such avenues and walks, and to make rules and regulations for the government of the grounds as they deem requisite and proper, in order to secure and promote the general objects and best interests of the Cemetery.
GENERAL RULES
17.1 - Lot owners and visitors will be allowed access to the grounds at all proper times, but must observe all rules which may be adopted for the regulation of visitors.
17.2 - All improper persons and all those known to have wantonly violated any of the rules and regulations of the Cemetery will not be permitted to enter the grounds.
17.3 - Visitors must keep on the avenues or walks, and not pluck flowers or injure any plants, shrubs, or trees, nor remove anything from the grounds which does not belong to them.
17.4 - Strangers are requested not to approach a grave during interment service.
17.5 - Persons with picnic lunches, refreshments, beer or intoxicating beverages, will not be permitted to enter the Cemetery.
17.6 - Lot owners and visitors are requested not to offer money to employees in return for favors.
17.7 - Anyone found in cemetery after dark will be considered a trespasser.
17.8 - Persons carrying firearms, except for military ceremonies, will not be permitted to enter the grounds.
17.9 - The speed limit for automobiles and other vehicles shall be ten miles per hour.
17.10 - Driving over lawns or parking on lawns will not be permitted.
17.11 - Bicycles, motor bicycles or motor scooters will not be permitted to enter the grounds.
17.12 - Dogs will not be permitted to enter the grounds unless kept in cars.
17.13 - Children will not be admitted unless accompanied by proper persons to control them. They must not be allowed to run over memorials, graves or lots.
17.14 - The soliciting of orders for ‘memorials’ or any other work or services, will not be allowed in the Cemetery.
17.15 - Bills past due to Nisky Hill Cemetery for labor and material supplied are a lien on a lot until paid.
17.16 - The Cemetery shall not be responsible for damages to ‘memorials’, mausoleums or other property, arising from acts of vandalism, acts of God, or from any other cause, nor shall the Cemetery be responsible for damages to memorials which must be moved in preparation for grave openings and foundation work, or which are damaged by mowing equipment or tools.
17.17 - IMPORTANT! Orders or messages by telephone are received at the risk of the sender, and all such messages should be immediately confirmed in writing by mail or personal delivery.
17.18 - The Cemetery Authorities will in no case be responsible for articles stolen or left on the grounds.
17.19 - If a loss occurs it should be reported at once and the Cemetery Authorities will do whatever is possible to recover said articles or property.
17.20 - All well disposed persons will confer a favor on the Cemetery Authorities by informing the Superintendent of any breach of these rules that may come to their attention.
